Review the eligibility criteria to ensure you qualify. All applicants must be current or former Purbeck School students pursuing STEM education.

Decide which scholarship or grant best fits your needs - university bursary, sixth form support, travel grant, or equipment grant.

Gather Documentation

Collect required documents including academic records, proof of enrollment, financial information, and references.

4️⃣

Complete Application Form

Fill out the application form thoroughly, explaining your educational goals, financial need, and how the scholarship will help you.

Submit Application

Send your completed application and supporting documents via email or post before the deadline.

6️⃣

Review & Decision

Our trustees review all applications carefully. You'll receive a decision within 4-6 weeks of the application deadline.

Eligibility Requirements

Who can apply for Charlotte Hosker Scholarship Trust funding

Essential Criteria

To be eligible for any scholarship or grant, you must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • ✓ Purbeck School Connection: Be a current or former student of The Purbeck School in Wareham
  • ✓ STEM Focus: Be pursuing or planning to pursue education in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics
  • ✓ Financial Need: Demonstrate genuine financial need for support
  • ✓ Academic Commitment: Show commitment to your educational goals through your academic record and personal statement

Priority Considerations

While all eligible applicants are fairly considered, the Trust gives priority to:

  • Female students - in line with Charlotte's legacy and our mission to promote women in STEM
  • Students from disadvantaged backgrounds - those facing significant financial barriers
  • First-generation university students - those whose parents did not attend university
  • Students with exceptional potential - demonstrated through academic achievement or other indicators

What you need to include with your application

Completed Application Form

The official Charlotte Hosker Scholarship Trust application form, fully completed with accurate information about yourself, your education, and your financial circumstances.

Personal Statement

A 500-800 word statement explaining your educational goals, why you're passionate about STEM, how the scholarship will help you, and your connection to Purbeck School. Be honest and personal!

Academic Records

Recent school reports, GCSE results, predicted A-level grades, or university transcripts (as applicable). We want to see your academic progress and achievement in STEM subjects.

Financial Information

Evidence of financial need such as household income details, benefits received, or a letter explaining your financial circumstances. All information is treated confidentially.

✍️

Academic Reference

A reference from a teacher, headteacher, or academic advisor who can speak to your academic abilities, character, and suitability for the scholarship. References should be sent directly by the referee.

🎓

Proof of Enrollment (if applicable)

For university or sixth form students, a letter confirming your enrollment or conditional offer, including details of your course and institution.

Application Deadlines

When to apply for different types of support

Main Application Round

Deadline: 30th April

For students starting university or sixth form in September, or who need support for the upcoming academic year.

Decision by: Early June

Applies to: University bursaries, sixth form grants, equipment grants

Autumn Application Round

Deadline: 30th November

For students who need mid-year support or who are starting courses in January.

Decision by: Late December

Applies to: Emergency grants, travel grants, additional support

Emergency Applications

If you're facing unexpected financial hardship that threatens your education, you can apply at any time. We assess emergency applications within 2 weeks.
